Cubit shelf serving as a table
For the construction of a Cubit shelf-table, you only require a few Cubit shelves adapted to your requirements and one table-top. The shelves serve as table supports and can be used, for example, as book shelves and ring binder shelves. The table-top can be cut to your specification. Our tip: You can order these boards at a particularly good price in the timber department of any DIY store. Either use pure MDF or plywood and paint it in a colour of your choice. Alternatively, you can opt for melamine-coated boards (the feel of these boards is not as high-quality as with varnished boards and the rough edges must be treated, however, they are more resistant against scratching). You must then consider whether to cut the wooden boards in such a way that the external groove of the Cubit shelves correspond to a 3mm groove at the underside of the table-top, and therefore whether you also use the Cubit connecting system, to play it safe. However, this is not absolutely necessary, in our office in Düsseldorf we ourselves use Cubit desks with 5cm-thick white-painted plywood boards that are simply placed on the shelves without fixation (this is sufficiently stable!). There are also customers who have coloured glass panels tailored to the Cubit shelves.
