Lisa and Claas from Amsterdam talking about made-to-measure solutions
“… and all of a sudden, we had space!”
They look like dollshouses. Historic buildings line Holland’s canals, providing a welcome backdrop for photographers. But what do they look like inside, we hear you ask? Again, just like dollshouses. They’re small, filled with lots of little nooks and crannies and packed with plenty of character. And they look nice too. But they can also prove to be pretty problematic when it comes to everyday matters. In situations like these, something different is required: a made-to-measure solution.
Where made-to-measure shelves are a must: in homes that are filled with lots of little nooks and crannies and packed with character, but have very little useful space
We visited Lisa and Claas in Amsterdam. They showed the Cubit team how to make shelves to fit in all those little nooks and crannies and around doors. “We fell in love with the house straight away. It’s our nest. At the time, we weren’t bothered in the slightest that there isn’t much space,” they explain with a smile. But then came the moment of truth: moving day. Everything had to be done really quickly, so there was no time for planning. It was simply a case of packing everything into boxes and moving into the compact little house. “We then found Cubit online and were thrilled straight away. We recognized that we would be able to make slim shelves out of these bits – made-to-measure shelves, to be exact.
Using the virtual planner to design shelves for installation in little nooks and crannies and around doors and windows
Lisa and Class’s home now feels comfortable and spacious at the same time. They were smart in designing their personal made-to-measure shelf. This is where they keep their tableware, for instance – in modules with doors. All around the doors, there are slim shelves that provide a home for their little library. Lisa is a lecturer and an avid reader. Whether for paperbacks or illustrated books, she found and used the perfect module for every format. Claas, on the other hand, brought his huge DVD collection with him when they moved in. And that’s arranged in a somewhat unconventional manner as well: on a shelf around the window. “Thanks to Cubit, the room now seems twice as big. How would you put it? Let’s just say, we’re having more fun in our house bit by bit.”
